Frigidaire FPGH3077RF Oven Review

The Frigidaire FPGH3077RF and other similar ovens and ranges make us realize just how far we have come from using hearths more than 400,000 years ago. According to scientists, our ancestors cooked their food for more than a million years, but evidence of the use of hearths only came much later. Further, it is one of the activities that separate us from other animals, and it is so universal that every culture since then has some method of cooking.

But if you describe the Frigidaire FPGH3077RF to our early ancestors, you would probably get confused looks or amused reactions. Fire coming out of burners? Beautiful polished stainless steel ovens? How about a hearth that can clean itself? We take it for granted, but the convenience of having today’s range ovens is something for which we should be thankful.

Should the Frigidaire FPGH3077RF be your next big purchase for your kitchen?

Things to Consider When Choosing an Oven

Before we dive into this FPGH3077RF review, there are a few factors you’ll need to consider to purchase the best oven for your needs. If you need a guide to follow, we’ve provided some key categories below to bear in mind during your search.

Maintenance

It’s not just the type of oven and its performance that you need to consider, but the maintenance involved too. Lots of ovens are made of different materials which affect how food sticks to them. Ovens that are finished in a hardwearing enamel don’t attract grease and food like other materials. As a result, they’re much easier and quicker to clean and require less expensive cleaning products.

On the other hand, some ovens come with a self-cleaning setting that you can use at high temperatures. Throughout the duration of owning your oven, you may need to replace this from time to time, but doing so means you don’t have to manually maintain the oven yourself. This maintenance process requires a couple of hours every couple of weeks so you’ll need to organize this cleaning day on a time when you’re home and able to check everything is operating safely.

Choosing a Gas Oven

Conventional Gas Ovens

This type of oven works as the hot air rises so the top of the oven gets hotter than the base to quickly heat up food. However, this isn’t an ideal option if you’re cooking multiple meals at the same time. But, this is a great feature if you’re cooking dishes that require multiple temperatures. Cooking with a conventional gas oven leaves a glossy finish to your food that naturally looks more appealing and has a moist texture on the inside. As a result, these are a popular choice for avid bakers.

Gas Ovens

Gas ovens cook food by warming from the bottom and crisping underneath. As a result, they’re ideal for cooking pizza and pastry but you shouldn’t use the base of the oven as a cooking shelf. Cooking with a gas oven tends to be quick as the heat evenly distributes throughout the unit, but you might find that these ovens aren’t very energy efficient and can be costly to run.

Freestanding Ovens

This is a great option if you’re confused about owning a gas or conventional gas or electric oven since they come in both options. Many freestanding ovens have a storage drawer so the unit doesn’t sit flat on the ground. However, this feature is great for keeping your kitchen organized and having a designated area to store your kitchen accessories and utensils.

Double or single oven

If you have limited space in your kitchen or don’t intend on cooking that much, a single oven is a great choice. Plus, if there’s only one or two of you, there’s not much need for a large oven. However, you can’t use the grill and oven at the same time with these units so bear that in mind for your big cooking days. Alternatively, double ovens are great for larger households with multiple people present. A double oven can be shallow so consider your workspace and kitchen size before making a purchase.

A Frigidaire FPGH3077RF Review

Frigidaire FPGH3077RF has several competitors in an increasingly crowded market of ranges and ovens. How does the Frigidaire FPGH3077RF compare to the Dacor RNRP36GS, the Jenn-Air JJW380DP, and the KitchenAid KDRS407?

Dacor RNRP36GS

Dacor Renaissance 36″ Stainless Steel Freestanding Gas Range

  • Dacor Renaissance RNRP36GSNG.
  • 36 inch
  • Freestanding

The Dacor RNRP36GS Renaissance is a 36-inch stainless steel gas range that has six sealed burners. The freestanding gas range has several types of gases used, including liquid propane and natural gas. You can also choose models that are perfect for homes in high altitudes.

First off, you would fall in love with this gas range because of its looks. The burners you have here helps you keep food warm while also being easy to use. However, it is very expensive.

Aside from that, the broiler and the oven do not deliver consistent cooking results. Performance is also quite middling, which makes its high price somewhat difficult to justify. This gas range oven has a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5.0. Verified owners on AppliancesConnection.com praised the Dacor RNRP36GS for its six burners, the features it offers, and how fast the power burner is when cooking. The reviews left were overwhelmingly positive.

The manufacturer has already discontinued the Dacor RNRP36GS. You can, however, still buy it online at such online retailers such as AppliancesConnection.com, ABT.com, and AJMadison.com.

PROS

  • The burners perform well when it comes to keeping food warm on low heat.

CONS

  • The oven’s baking produces equally inconsistent results, even on convection mode.

KitchenAid KDRS407

KDRS407VSS Commercial-Style Dual Fuel Range

Measuring 29.75 by 35.75 by 29.56 inches, the KitchenAid KDRS407 is a stainless steel slide-in oven. The KDRS407 gives you four burners and a 4.1 cubic foot oven. This self-cleaning oven has a dual fuel convection technology. This feature allows you to be flexible when you cook.

The KitchenAid KDRS407 uses both gas cooking and electric baking. With the Even-Heat True Convection technology, you can be sure that cooking is even and consistent. You might also love the industrial design that makes this range oven look like every bit its somewhat high price.

Nevertheless, the KitchenAid KDRS407 gets a rating of 5.0 stars out of 5.0. Customers unanimously recommend this appliance to their friends and family and praised the KitchenAid KDRS407 for exceeding their expectations. What’s more, the KDRS407 might have long cooking times, but it does cook your food thoroughly. CNET.com praised it for turning out succulent and juicy chickens. Meanwhile, biscuits baked on different racks came out evenly baked.

PROS

  • Great brand great design and fantastic controls.

CONS

  • There is a noticeable delay between setting the oven temperature in the app and the oven receiving that setting and adjusting accordingly

Pros and Cons of the Frigidaire FPGH3077RF

The Frigidaire FPGH3077RF is one of those gas ranges that has a stainless steel body, but it looks very sleek rather than looking plain, commonplace, and dull. The face of the Frigidaire FPGH3077RF is mostly stainless steel with clean lines. Even the knobs have that steel look. The oven’s black window and the LED display in between the knobs visually break that sheeny and shiny metal look. Compared to other stainless steel ovens, the Frigidaire FPGH3077RF looks more like professional equipment. It is also very pleasing to the eyes.

Aside from looking good, this gas range and oven also performs rather well. CNET.com conducted some baking tests, and they found that biscuits baked in this oven are uniformly baked and cooked all throughout. It did, however, looked a little pale.

They also used the convection roast setting for cooking a whole chicken. The roasted chicken came out delicious looking with juicy meat and crisp skin. What’s more, reviewers at CNET.com found that the oven is one of the fastest when it comes to boiling water among all the models they tested.

What Could Be Better

Going back to CNET’s tests, they found that the Frigidaire FPGH3077RF broiled burgers rather slowly. Further, you might also not like how the knobs feel clumsy to turn. It feels wobbly and stiff at the same time.

However, the biggest turn off that we see with this appliance is that it is priced too high. The high price is not justified by its set of features that you can find on more affordable models, such as the Kenmore 74343. At its price range, you would expect some high tech features you find on the Jenn-Air JJW380DP. Or, perhaps, the performance delivered by the Dacor RNRP36GS.

Pricey Frigidaire FPGH3077RF Falls Flat

The Frigidaire FPGH3077RF has a lot of good things going for it. It is very evident that the company has spent a lot of time with its design. The FPGH3077RF looks somewhat polished and elegant. Even if you put it alongside other stainless steel ovens, you will still take notice of the FPGH3077RF.

It has the features that most people would expect from their gas range and oven. The cooktop allows you to do everything from keeping your food warm to boiling water quickly. The oven gives you a wide variety of cooking options. Also worth mentioning is the True Convection technology. Further, the oven cleans itself.

If we stop at that, it is quite easy to recommend the Frigidaire FPGH3077RF to anyone. However, it is very expensive. The Frigidaire model falls flat as it does not have any groundbreaking features to justify the price. You can find all of these features in more wallet-friendly ovens.

You get more of that feeling of being shortchanged when you consider the performance. When it comes to cooking, broiling, and baking, the Frigidaire FPGH3077RF is not necessarily bad.

However, the problem is that you cannot describe it as an excellent piece of cooking equipment either. Having fast cooking times and excellent cooking results would be the bare minimum considering its price. With a lower price tag, the Frigidaire FPGH3077RF would have been an easy appliance to recommend.
